Course overview

ITIL 5 Foundation is the entry-level course for ITIL (Version 5), PeopleCert’s framework for digital product and service management. In two live days it covers the framework’s guiding principles, key models and core concepts, and prepares you for the Foundation exam.

Choose it if you work in IT operations, service desk, delivery or product teams, or need the Foundation certificate as the first step towards the higher ITIL qualifications. The class is taught live by Islam Elzayat, a PeopleCert Approved Trainer.

The ITIL 5 Foundation training course provides participants with a foundational understanding of the core concepts underpinning digital product and service management, while establishing a common language for effective practice across organizations. It offers a comprehensive overview of the ITIL framework—covering its guiding principles, key models, and fundamental concepts—and illustrates how these components are applied to create, deliver, and continuously improve products and services.

This course enables participants to grasp how value is co-created through the proficient management of products and services, and how organizations can leverage ITIL guidance to enhance performance, collaboration, and overall outcomes. Additionally, it addresses the evolution of the ITIL framework to accommodate modern technologies, data-driven decision-making, automation, artificial intelligence, and contemporary operational practices, all while maintaining the flexibility to suit diverse organizational contexts and varying levels of maturity.

Course Objectives

  • Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Comprehend the foundational concepts of ITIL® Version 5, including modern service management, product-centric thinking, and value-driven digital ecosystems.
  • Understand how value is co-created through collaboration between service providers, consumers, and stakeholders, with increased focus on AI integration, automation, and experience-driven outcomes.
  • Explore the four dimensions—Organizations and People, Value Streams and Processes, Information and Technology, and Partners and Suppliers—enhanced with digital, data, and AI capabilities to support holistic service management.
  • Develop an understanding of the ITIL Service Value System (SVS) and how it evolves in Version 5 to support adaptive, intelligent, and product-oriented operating models.
  • Learn how to apply ITIL guiding principles in modern contexts, including automation, AI adoption, and digital transformation initiatives, to improve decision-making and collaboration.
  • Build a solid understanding of product and service lifecycle activities, including design, transition, delivery, and continual optimization, with a stronger emphasis on products and digital services integration.
  • Explore ITIL management practices and understand how they evolve to support AI-enabled operations, automation, and data-driven service management.
  • Understand how continual improvement is embedded within ITIL, including the structured continual improvement model, and how it supports innovation, agility, and long-term organizational resilience.

Who issues the certificate?

PeopleCert issues the ITIL Foundation (Version 5) certificate after you pass the exam. Horus Academy prepares you for the exam and does not issue the certificate.

  • Duration: 60 minutes (non-native English speakers may receive additional time based on PeopleCert policies).
  • Number of Questions: 40 multiple-choice questions.
  • Scoring: Each question carries one mark.
  • Pass Mark: 26 marks (65%) or higher required to pass (out of 40).
  • Exam Format: Multiple Choice (single best answer).
  • Exam Delivery: Online proctored exam via PeopleCert or authorized exam formats.
