Courses and formats
Which certifications can I train for at Horus Academy?
You can train for PECB certifications across ISO/IEC 27001 (information security), ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management), ISO 22301 (business continuity), ISO 31000 (risk management), ISO/IEC 27701 and GDPR (privacy), ISO 9001 (quality), ISO/IEC 20000 (IT service management), ISO 14001, ISO 45001, NIS 2, DORA, SOC 2, cloud security and ethical hacking, and for ITIL through PeopleCert. The full list is on the All Courses page.
What is the difference between self-study, e-learning, hybrid and live courses?
Self-study gives you the official course materials to work through on your own. E-learning adds recorded lessons that you follow online at your own pace. Hybrid combines the self-paced course with one day of one-to-one live coaching with the instructor, which can be split into a half day before you start studying and a half day before your exam. A live course is a scheduled online class led by an instructor, with exercises and time for questions. All formats prepare you for the same certification exam.
What is the difference between Foundation, Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor courses?
A Foundation course teaches the core concepts and requirements of a standard and suits people new to it. A Lead Implementer course teaches you to plan, implement and manage a management system in an organization. A Lead Auditor course teaches you to plan, conduct and report audits of a management system. Choose Lead Implementer if you build or run the system, and Lead Auditor if you assess it.
How long does a course take?
A PECB Foundation course is two days of content and carries 14 CPD credits. A PECB Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor course runs over five days, with the certification exam on the fifth day, and carries 31 CPD credits. Self-study and e-learning courses cover the same content at your own pace.
Which languages are the courses available in?
All courses are available in English. A number of PECB courses are also available in French, and the live ITIL Foundation course is delivered in English and Arabic. The language options are shown on each course page.
Do I need prior experience to enrol?
Foundation courses have no prerequisites. Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor courses assume a basic understanding of the standard and, for auditors, of audit principles. Each course page lists its prerequisites.
When do live classes take place?
Start dates for live classes are listed on each course page. Class hours are arranged with the participants to suit their time zones.
Exams and certification
Who issues my certificate?
Your certificate is issued by the certification body, not by Horus Academy. PECB issues the certificates for ISO and related courses, and PeopleCert issues ITIL certificates. Horus Academy is an authorized training partner that prepares you for the exam.
Is the exam included in the course price?
Most courses include an exam voucher for the related certification exam. Each course page states exactly what the price includes. Exam vouchers can also be bought on their own for some certifications.
What happens if I fail the exam?
For PECB courses, one complimentary exam retake is available within 12 months of your first attempt. For other certification bodies, the retake terms are shown on the course page.
How are the exams delivered?
Exams are scheduled, delivered and marked by the certification body under its own rules. ITIL exams are taken online with a remote proctor through PeopleCert. After you enrol, we send you the instructions for booking your exam.
Is passing the exam enough to become certified?
Passing the exam is the first step. PECB credentials such as Certified Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer also require relevant professional experience and acceptance of the PECB Code of Ethics. The experience requirements for each credential level are listed on the course page.
Should I take ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer?
Take ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer if your role is to build, run or improve an information security management system (ISMS). Take ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor if you audit an ISMS, internally or for a certification body. If you are new to the standard, start with ISO/IEC 27001 Foundation.
What is ISO/IEC 42001, and who should take the course?
ISO/IEC 42001 is the international standard for an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS). It sets out how an organization governs the development and use of AI responsibly. The ISO/IEC 42001 courses suit professionals in AI governance, risk, compliance, information security and digital transformation.
Payment, access and refunds
How do I pay for a course?
You pay online at checkout by credit or debit card or by PayPal. Payments are processed by our payment providers, and Horus Academy does not store your card details.

Can I get a refund?
You can cancel and receive a full refund before your course is assigned to you on the certification body’s portal. After the course has been assigned, the purchase is not refundable. Full details are in the Refund Policy.
